Contact Lens Exam

Different Patients Have Different Prescriptions

All contacts require a prescription from your eye doctor but your prescription might only be good for a limited amount of time so you may need to come in for another eye exam to keep getting contacts. That's because your eyes can change, and your contacts may need to change, too.

Your eye exam for contact lenses always includes measurements of the curvature of the lens of your eye. An eye doctor does this with an instrument called a special instrument to get a precise reading. If you have astigmatism, the surface of the cornea over the lens of your eye won't be perfectly round. An eye doctor on our team will have to prescribe a special lens to fit the contour of your eye.

It isn't just the shape of your cornea that determines the type of contacts you get. Different people have differences in tear film production. You might need a certain type of contact lens in order to counter-act effects of dry eye syndrome.

Accounting for a changing prescription is a main reason everyone who wears contacts is recommended to make an appointment with an optometrist every year but there are other reasons, as well.

An Optometrist on Our Optometry Team Is Here to Help

The first time you get contacts, we will likely give you trail contacts so that you can practice wearing them. This is to make sure that your prescription will fit comfortably on your eyes. It is also an opportunity to make sure you understand how to put them in, take them out, and keep them clean.

Anytime you need a major change in your prescription, an optometrist on our team might spend extra time with you to make sure you have a good fit. WE are here to help make sure that you get the vision correction you need to see clearly and be comfortable.
